As a child of the 70s I spent most every saturday morning in front of the television watching Saturday Morning Cartoons. These were the five year olds water cooler shows (or the equivalent - kool-aid by the Big Wheel), the programs that informed him about the world, they still lie at the core of our very being. As a result of all this entirely non-hyperbolic influence it can be rather frightening to go back and watch what these shows actually looked like, and when getting nostalgiac I always prefer a heaping dose of cheeze to take the sting out, makes the whole go down that much easier.
Cheeze? Was the Land of the Lost Cheezy? Oh it was packed with cheeze, it oozed cheeze, even as a little tyke I knew this - plasticine dinosaurs, hairy cave children and hissing lizard men, it was a cheeze buffet all set out to shape our minds. For better or for worse? I'm not sure. Help me decide by taking a walk down memory lane and have a good laugh in good company, these were our wonder years.
Across from this you'll find the very first episode to air, which has the resourceful Marshall family finding their way about in this strange new land. The intro has the wonderfully catchy theme song (hear it once - hum it all week), and from there they go through their fist adventure where they dodge a ferocious tyrannosaurus rex (named Grumpy - I wouldn't make that up) and kidnap a caveman child (who I can't help but imagine smells poorly from the feces that must encrusted into his fur - no toilet paper sucks). It's all pretty stupid and a blast at the same time, just the way we like it.
